The use of digital techniques in dental medicine has evolved dramatically in the latest decades.  To some degree, the digital techniques has touched almost every aspect of orthodontic treatment, from digital photography and records collecting to indirect bonding and robotic bended wires. Nowadays, the state of the art digital orthodontics techniques include digital scans, virtual planning and 3D printing. The use of digital scans helps the orthodontist to eliminate impression errors and to obtain accurate virtual models that can be computer analyzed and provide treatment objectives visualization. The communication between the orthodontist and the lab technician has never been easier.

The present work will review some of the digital planning techniques used in orthodontic treatment, together with clinical cases presentation.

Dr.Camelia Szuhanek is a specialist in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. She received her DDS, MSc and PhD degrees at the Faculty of Dental Medicine, University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Victor Babes” Timisoara, Romania. She is currently the  Professor at the Department of Orthodontics, Head of Orthodontic Department and PhD supervisor at the  Faculty of Dental Medicine, University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Victor Babes” Timisoara and teaches the orthodontic course to the 5th year dental students. Since 2017, she is an orthodontic postgraduate resident coordinator. She is the author and coauthor of over 300 scientific articles about orthodontics, 4 books  and the director of two scientific grants. She is a member of European Orthodontic Society(EOS), World Federation of Orthodontics(WFO) and American Association of Orthodontics(AAO). She maintains a private practice limited to orthodontics in Timisoara, Romania, where she treated more than 3000 patients. Dr Szuhanek is a certified Incognito, Invisalign and Clear Aligner orthodontist. She successfully completed the FACE-Functional and Cosmetic Excellence advanced 2 year orthodontic program(2015-2017). 

From 2020, Dr Szuhanek is the founder and Director of  the Orthodontic Research Center ORTHO-CENTER Faculty of Dental Medicine, University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Victor Babes” Timisoara, Romania.

Habilitation Thesis(2020) Digital and Interdisciplinary Advances in Orthodontics

Main research interests are biomechanics, digital orthodontics, aligners, orthognathic multidisciplinary treatment and skeletal anchorage with orthodontic implants.

Main affiliations: EOS, AAO, WFO, AREO, WSLO, CMSR.
