bitFlyer is one of the largest bitcoin exchanges in the world. Founded in Japan in 2014 and having become a household name in that market, the company set up in the US in 2017 and Europe in 2018. In Europe, bitFlyer was granted a Payment Institution (PI) license and in the US it has a license from the New York Department of Financial Services (plus many other state licenses). bitFlyer believes that regulation is fundamental to the future of the virtual currency industry and aims to set a high standard in that regard.
In Japan, bitFlyer consumer and ‘pro’ users can both trade bitcoin, Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Monacoin and Lisk. In Europe and the US, for now the exchange focuses on bitcoin only.
